WAHM Spotlight; Lammie Bottoms Overnight Cloth Diapering

Disclosure; This is not a sponsored post. I did receive product samples to facilitate my review however the opinions are my own.

Night time Cloth Diapering was the most challenging cloth routine to master. It’s a combination of absorbency verses bulk, finding the right diaper and even waking up in a puddle a few times. Many cloth families turn to fitted diapers to solve all of these issues and we did too! Why? Fitted cloth diapers are extremely popular for night time use, absorbent and typically made with natural fibers. Wool covers are their perfect companion. The covers are worn over the fitted diaper to provide a breathable, yet water resistant outer layer. The natural wool fibers become water resistant through lanolizing, and can go for long periods without being washed. Lanolizing wool cloth diapers is really easy and a great way to waterproof your night time routine.
I’m thrilled to share Lammie Bottoms Natural Cloth Diapers with you. This WAHM company is located in Clayton NC and run by a husband and wife duo, Monica and David. Together, with their 5 children and yellow lab, they run a well oiled cloth diaper business that while budding, looks like they’ve been doing this forever. Here’s our experience:

When I first started cloth diapering, getting rid of the night time disposable was our biggest hurdle. I was able to cloth diaper all day, but every night combination I tried left baby soaked. I was washing sheets every morning and even sometimes in the middle of the night. I felt defeated and was not happy about the amount of hours baby spent in a disposable diaper full of chemicals. It wasn’t until I discovered fitted cloth diapers that I conquered our night time routine! As a cosleeping, breastfeeding Mom I really appreciate waking up dry too. There have been times when I woke up to a wet shirt or a wet spot in the bed. Luckily…there’s wool!
When I first opened the package from Lammie Bottoms, I was really pleased with the presentation. Everything came neatly organized in this really pretty organza bag tied with ribbon. I couldn’t wait to get started! As a Mom to well hydrated children, I can really appreciate a long-lasting diaper and especially something for night! In addition, one of the many benefits to wool is that it can be used multiple times. Unlike the diaper, that needs to be washed after each use, a wool cover can go days or weeks without needing to be washed or re-lanolized. Someone washing their cloth diapers every 2 days can go with 2-3 fitted diapers and 1 wool cover to have night time covered. Great, right?
Lammie Bottoms offers Bamboo Velour fitted cloth diapers and Merino Wool Covers. Handmade from Bamboo Velour, the fitted diapers offer both waist and rise snaps for a great fit. The insert has 5 layers of absorbency, with a single snap to hold the soaker in, 2 layers of hemp fleece and 2 layers of bamboo fleece topped with a layer of bamboo velour. The entire diaper is super soft and even a vit stretchy. In combination with the 100% organic Merino Wool covers, this system is great for heavy wetters and/or night time diapering.

Overall this system has been working very well for us. I love the shorts! While my heavy wetter has needed a little booster in the front of the diaper to help with wetness, overall this diaper is very absorbent and soft. He’s around 18 pounds in this photo and wearing the Med/Large fitted. He’s on the smallest snap rise and overall it fits well. For the amount of fabric and absorbency, this diaper doesn’t make my little man look like he’s doing a split. He still has nice leg closure and I can button his onesie over the entire system. I recommend putting the diaper on right before bed. I’ve noticed that if I put it on a half hour ahead of time we can start his night-time off with a bit of wetness, which isn’t ideal. If I put the diaper on right as we’re going to bed he wakes up drier and happier.
I prepped the diaper by washing/drying it 5 times with my regular laundry. I’m thrilled that it didn’t really shrink or change in appearance. I was nervous about lanolizing the wool cover, and to be honest had completely avoided wool because I thought it would be difficult…but it’s so easy. Read full instructions on how to lanolize this cover with full photos and info. I did notice, that as a seconds diaper, this sample has some ‘off’ snaps in the waist row. This doesn’t impact function, and after it was washed several times they straightened a bit more. I imagine trying to sew this luxurious thick and a bit stretchy fabric is challenging, I’d have it in a giant ball!

Thank you for your review. It’s actually funny that I was sent to this post when I’ve been struggling trying to find a night time solution for LO. I’ve tried bamboo fitted with a hemp insert and wool cover, but it doesn’t last 10-12 hours. Maybe I haven’t lanolized properly? I also don’t feel confident with wool. Maybe I need to try a different brand like this one. Did it last that long for you? Thanks!

That diaper looks great! Unfortunately, $45 for only one is far from our price point 🙁

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
