Reusable Organic Cotton Menstrual Pads Bummis Fabulous Flo

After cloth diapering my children for many years, I decided to green my menstrual cycle and switch to Reusable Organic Cotton Menstrual Pads. However, I found that reusable pads made with organic cotton were hard to find…until now. The Bummis Fabulous Flo pads are made in Canada with fabrics manufactured in the USA. These reusable pads have organic cotton and are better for the environment, my body and wallet. They are free from chemicals, washable and more breathable then a disposable pad. Reusable Organic Cotton Menstrual Pads are super absorbent and can be used alone or with a Menstrual Cup. They won’t end up in a landfill, save money in the long run and are more comfortable then disposable pads. Check the line out below and see where you can purchase them:

Reusable Organic Cotton menstrual Pads

We live in a throw-away society. Everything from the containers we drink out of to the products we use for menstruation are throw away. This disposable lifestyle is creating pollution throughout the planet and contributing to our chemical footprint. In addition to environmental concerns, these disposable products are made from and transfer chemicals to our body. Our skin is the largest organ and chemicals in our self-care products transfer from it to our bloodstream. One of the most important areas, in my opinion, to avoid placing chemically made products is the vagina and associated regions. This area is vascular, contains sensitive areas and in a direct route to growing babies.

When searching for reusable menstrual pads, I found it was difficult to find reusable organic cotton menstrual pads. I can find colorful minky, poly jersey, cotton jersey but organic cotton pads are few and far between. Why organic cotton? Cotton is well know to be one of the highest pesticide treated crops and organic cotton, just like organic food, lacks these chemical agents. I was really thrilled to try the Bummis Fabulous Flo Menstraul Pads! Find them at my affiliate from Kelly’s Closet! I use Bummis products on my babies, including their awesome all-in-one diaper, and know they have fantastic quality and a #MadeHere promise. This means that the company makes products in Canada, and gets materials from the USA and Canada whenever possible. Here,  have a look at my sample pads:

These reusable menstrual pads are organic cotton, have PUL (waterproof layer) on the backside and close around your underwear with a snap. The wings function very similarly to a disposable pad and hug your underwear while protecting the cloth from overflow. They have an assortment of colors and patterns, and come in multiple absorbances. Bummis Fabulous Flo Features include:

  • Organic cotton
  • Waterproof PUL backed
  • Wings with snap closure
  • Serged edges
  • Textured Cotton
  • Breathable
  • Easy to wash
  • Available in Panty Liners, Regular and Heavy Flow
  • Trim and comfortable
  • Absorbent at all flow levels

My experience. At first, I feared that these lightly colored reusable organic cotton menstrual pads would easily stain. To my surprise, the Bummis Fabulous Flo pads have been cleaning well. On heavy days, I do notice some discoloration. However, with a pre-rinse and a treatment (if needed) they have stayed relatively stain-free. A little discoloration is a small trade off to have organic, dye-free pads!
These are very comfortable and trim. It’s deceiving, because they are so trim fitting, however they pack a nice amount of absorbency. In addition, the PUL print sides are really attractive! Unlike reusable menstrual pads with a fleece or flannel back, these are waterproof like the outside layer of a cloth diaper. This means that blood or other fluids won’t pass through the pad and onto your underwear or clothing.

Room for improvement? While the waterproof PUL can slid around a tad, the wings help keep it secure. I found these to be a bit narrow in width then some of my other pads. They fit well around the crotch of my bikini underwear but fold the fabric together in my hip-huggers and bigger lady pants. The PUL can go either way. I really appreciate not having my pad leak through my pants…but I also like rinsing my pads out by running water from the fleece side through the front before I wash them. Would I purchase more of these? Yes! I adore them. Where can you find them? On the Bummis Website there are many Canadian Retailers.
