Balm Baby Mama Belly Review

Expecting my 4th baby boy, while my oldest is 4, has certainly put my body through major changes. At 5’4″ with what feels like a short torso, my belly gets big. I can feel the muscles and skin stretching, and am shocked at it’s ability to grow and return to a near pre-baby state. I have practiced belly massage during and after pregnancy to ease tension and help prevent stretch marks. I rub my belly daily and then cover it with a maternity tank or t-shirt to help keep the moisture in.
I was surprised to read statistics about how quickly topical products get absorbed into my bloodstream. I thought immediately about my baby and only use 100% natural and baby safe belly balm on my skin. I’m thrilled to try out Balm Baby’s Mama Belly! Mama Belly is 100% organic and natural, and made in the USA in Hawaii!! What an amazing job that would be; Working in Hawaii making natural and organic skin care products… Where do I sign up?! The package arrived in the mail and I could smell the whipped belly butter and couldn’t wait to try it.

Ingredients include: Extra virgin olive oil, calendula, chamomille, cocoa butter, shea butter, coconut oil, macadamia nut oil, organic corn starch, vitamin e T-50 & essential oils of: orange & lavender.

What a great list of ingredients right? So natural I could cook with and/or eat nearly all of them (not that I plan on eating this). In addition to the great ingredient list, the product comes in a recycled aluminum 4oz tin, is USA made, Leaping Bunny Certified, and Vegan. I’m a huge Amazon fan, but can’t find the product there yet. However, there is a HUGE selection of products on the Nicki’s Diapers website and on the Balm Baby company site itself.
Mama Belly is scented with orange and lavender. As a pregnant Mama I’m super sensitive to scent. When I first opened the container I thought I wouldn’t be able to tolerate the fragrance, however after I rub my belly with it the scent reminds me of the spa. It goes on shiny/oily and quickly absorbs. I can smell the orange and lavender, but I can also smell the Shea! What a wonderful scent shea is, and within just a few minutes after I covered my belly up with a cotton tank I lifted it to check on the balm’s progress. I am very pleased to say that this leaves my belly silky smooth and lightly/pleasantly scented.
I hope in the future that they would consider offering scent free (for super sensitive Mamas like myself). However the initial potency of the fragrance is misleading, and it absorbs well and leaves a faint scent. It has a great texture and after warming on my skin a few seconds it spreads very evenly and smoothly. The whipped consistency reminds me of whipped cream cheese (I have few other whipped items to compare this to) and it crinkles a bit when I scoop some out. I look forward to using it after I shower and practice belly massage daily. As I enter the 3rd trimester I know just how important balming my belly is and I will continue after baby is born as well. In addition to Mama Belly, please check out my reviews on their great Diaper Balm/First Aid Balm and Soothing Nipple Balm to see more products this company has to offer.
