Newborn Baby Carriers That Don’t Need an Infant Insert

Newborn Baby Carriers

Finding a baby carrier for your newborn can be challenging. There are many carriers out there and even several different models from each brand. Recently, there has been a lot of excitement over baby carriers that don’t need an additional piece, the infant insert, to fit newborn babies. These adjustable carriers literally grow with baby and expand with a few adjustments. Here’s what’s available:

newborn baby carrier

Many soft structured carriers by brands like Lillebaby and Ergo require a separate piece, an infant-insert to fit newborn babies. However, there are a few on the market that don’t require one at all. Instead, the carrier gets more narrow and wide to adjust for baby’s size. In addition to the big panel changing size, many have a head area that can get taller and shorter. This allows for a small baby to fit inside the carrier without the additional insert. While these carriers won’t fit every baby, they have widened the size and weight of babies they do fit well.

I have reviewed, used and regularly recommend these 3 carriers. I did contact a 4th company with a no-insert newborn carrier advertised for a review sample. If they send one, after reviewing it, if I think it’s up to par with these I’ll add it here. These are 3 great options for infant and beyond carriers that don’t require an additional insert purchase. That means less to worry about, less to carry in your diaper bag and less to fiddle with when trying to get baby into a carrier.

Will these work for everyone? My son was over 9lbs when born and 21+ inches long. He fit in the carriers with his head barely poking over the top. I don’t know if a preemie would fit in the carrier without a boost under the bottom of some sort. If you have used these with a premie and could contribute, please do so below! Thanks for your time and have a great week.
