Green Mountain Mustard is made in the USA right in Vermont. I have had the opportunity to test the Horse Power Horseradish mustard and Clove Encounter Garlic and Oregano mustard. These flavors are both from their Delicious Deli collection. Full of flavor and kick, these are sure to be a staple in our household. Family developed and run, this company has definitely put their heart, soul and passion into each jar.
Green Mountain Mustard started with Ed and his son Michael developed their first jar and sold out over and over again at local farmer’s markets. The company has grown from there to include 8 awesome flavors and a much bigger company that includes online retailing! All 8 flavors come in a pack for $49.99 shipped! Which, if you ask me, is a great gift for a Holiday (Father’s Day is coming up) or simply for anyone who loves to cook. Don’t know what to do with mustard? They offer a free e-cookbook!
I love horse radish. If my eyes tear a bit, it’s even better! I opened the jar of Horse Power
first. It’s tan and has red specs throughout. I turned to the ingredients label and am very pleased and impressed with the ingredient list. Horse Power contains: Vinegar, eggs, mustard powder, sugar, butter, maple syrup, horseradish powder, red pepper flakes, salt. I don’t consider this hot, but flavorful. The company does offer much hotter varieties including one with red habanero peppers and another with siracha.
With a consistency similar to honey, I first spread this on a roast beef sandwich. Okay, I ate way too much mustard!! Then I thought, how could I serve this to guests for a Holiday? I can’t pass out sandwiches, what about an appetizer? You can read my Roast Beef with Horse Power appetizer recipe
for the details! Fast, easy and delicious…these will definitely reappear at our table again and again!
The Clover Encounter
is a bit misleading primarily because (to my relief) it doesn’t contain any cloves. Ingredients include; Vinegar, garlic cloves, mustard powder, sugar, salt, garlic powder, oregano, black pepper. This mustard is much thinner then the Horse Power and definitely needs a spoon. Upon opening the lid, it’s easy to see the chunks of garlic inside and smell the flavor. I wanted to create something that was fast and easy to make. You can see my Tuna Toppers With a Kick recipe
for details about using this with a can of high quality white albacore tuna.
Overall I’m pleased. While my husband didn’t care for the flavors, and reports that he likes plain yellow mustard in a squeeze bottle…that just means there’s more gourmet Green Mountain Mustard for me! I definitely ate way too much mustard yesterday…but yummmm.
