Snappi Diaper Fasteners are well known for their popularity with flat, prefold and fitted cloth diapers. How do they work? Snappi Baby fasteners replace diaper pins! They hold diapers without the sharp point on a pin and are easy to use. They come in great colors and over 80 million units have been sold worldwide! Snappi Baby Fasteners are “made in South Africa exclusively for Snappi Baby USA” and are latex free. They are made from thermoplastic resin (TPU) and available in 3 or 5 packs. These stretchy fasteners come with their own set of teeth that grip onto and hold a diaper in place. While not all snappis have googly eyes and puff ball hair (I applied these myself and yours will not come with these) I think you’ll find that they’re a happy, fun-inspiring cloth accessory too!
Using a snappi is a three step process. First, prep new snappi fastners by pulling and stretching them gently. Then, once you’ve placed your flour sack towel, prefold diaper or fitted workhorse without snaps on baby it’s time to use the snappi. While it may be a slow process at first, keep in mind that with use you may get faster and faster. First hook the left side by attaching the teeth to the fabric. Pull the snappi to the Right and attach those teeth as well. Next, create a “Y” shape by pulling down on the snappi and fixing the lowest part.
The most common question I get is if the teeth hurt baby. The answer is, they should never come near baby’s skin if used with enough ply to the prefold. It’s important to pay attention to the ply (layers) of your prefold. I used newborn prefolds that were 2 x 6 x 2 and the 2 layers was not enough to keep the teeth from poking through. My favorite prefolds for cloth diapers include Geffen Baby prefolds, Grovia Prefolds, Green Mountain Diaper Prefolds and Workhorse diapers. These work well under a thin diaper cover the Thirsties Duo wrap.
