Must Have Items for Post-Partum Lady Part Care

After my children were born, I was given a list of items for post-partum vaginal care from the Hospital. Four babies later, I know that there are other products out there that are amazing to have after delivery. Taking good care of your VaJayJay after delivery can help speed up recovery time, ease discomfort and overall make post-partum time more pleasant. My top items are below and I hope you can find something to help you too!

After my vaginal deliveries, I was left caring for a newborn and breastfeeding, but also needed to care for myself. I didn’t enjoy staying in the hospital, their 2 hour around the clock checks (aka waking me up once I finally fell asleep!) and the uncomfortable mattress. I was thrilled to get home and be in my own bed, use my own clothes and be with my other children. While the hospital provided some items, I found that others were helpful as well and wish I knew about them sooner! I’ve included some great items and affiliate links where you can find them:
Earth Mama Angel Baby New Mama Bottom Spray!

This is a fantastic product. It contains Witch Hazel like the pads the hospital gave me, but can be sprayed right where it’s needed and in any amount needed. It has a pleasant odor and a gentle mist for healing Lady Parts. It has herbal ingredients and the company recommends it for episiotomies, bruised tissue and hemorrhoids. It’s nontoxic and I’ve used it long after delivery too. It’s a great all around product.

        Condom Ice Packs
This was a technique I learned from nursing in the hospital. Filling a condom with water, not enough to make it pop, and placing it in the freezer makes a great lady-part ice pack. While it doesn’t get inserted into the vagina, it lies from front to back across the lady part area to cool, help reduce swelling and help with pain. I found some plain condoms, pre-made packs and had them ready for returning home. This allowed me to continue the ice I received in the hospital comfortably at home.

While the hospital provided me with the biggest disposable pads I’ve ever seen, they didn’t breathe and were uncomfortable. They were hot, plastic and not pleasant for my lady parts after having a baby. For this delivery, I had pads ready for my return home. In various sizes, I found the 9-10″ to be the most used after bleeding slowed. They breathe, don’t contain chemicals and are made from cloth…just like my underwear! Easy to wash and care for, I’ve become a huge fan of Pink Lemonade Mama Pads! They come in many different colors, patterns and materials and are always being stocked with new items.

While I’m not generally a fan of plastic, the fear of dropping a glass on the floor steered me in this direction. I kept a BPA-free plastic cup on the back of the toilet. Unlike the peri-bottle the hospital gave me, this allowed me to slowly pour warm water over my lady area to wash off blood, soothe soreness and care for the episiotomy I had with my second baby. In addition, if my older children grabbed and dropped the cup, it wouldn’t break.

        A Soft Seat
After delivering, I looked at the wooden bench in the hospital shower and wanted to find the person who installed it and give them a piece of my mind! Who thought up a wooden bench for ladies who just had a human being come out of their vagina?! My whole bottom was sore for a few days, maybe even a few weeks, and sitting on something hard was…well, hard. Sometimes sitting the mattress the wrong way was uncomfortable and I found the softest spot in the house to be the sofa.
If you’ve delivered, congratulations! If you’re waiting, you should know that I was surprised at how quickly my lady area looked normal and holding my newborn children was the most amazing experience of my life. I never knew how much I could love until I met my babies. I mean, I love my husband, but the love for a child is not like any other. Make sure to care for your lady area and yourself, the days go b
y fast and the moments we have such a short time before they’re crawling.

Due in 5 days, honestly can’t wait to meet baby #3 but I am not looking forward to recovery. I did buy some Earth Mama Angel Baby bottom spray because of this blog post though!
