I have a fond place in my heart for Buttons Diapers. They were our non-newborn…newborn diapers for my third son. I started cloth diapering my second son when he was 8 months old and was completely inexperienced with cloth diapering a newborn. I bought a stash of One Size diapers expecting them to fit my healthy boy from birth on. Unfortunately they didn’t fit him until around 16 lbs, even though he was 9.5 at birth and they said 8-35lbs. Luckily we had our Buttons Diapers.
While our other OS diapers didn’t fit for several weeks…our Buttons Diapers fit right away!! In addition to fitting from birth, I also found that the Buttons all-in-two (AI2) system is easy to use, easy to clean and comes with a variety of inserts. Since our last experience with them, Buttons has expanded their line to include a huge selection of solids and prints. I look forward to using Buttons Diapers for the arrival of our 4th son in just a few months. Here, take a look.
The Buttons Diapers shown here are OS in Charming (orange teal and white chevron) and Thicket, (green and white leaf pattern). Both diapers fit approximately 9-35 lbs. While my chunky legged boys didn’t make it to 35lbs before they were retired into our stash, these diapers truly fit at 9lbs. Features include;
- Double gussets
- Single row waist snaps
- Two rows of rise adjustment snaps
- Single cross-over snap
- Two layers of soft wipeable PUL
- Snap-in inserts in daytime or nighttime
- Option for natural fiber inserts or microfiber
- Can be used multiple times prior to wash
- Fast shell dry time
- Large in-stock selection of colors and prints
- Shells range from $11.50 to $13
Buttons inserts come in Daytime singles or Nighttime snap-together doubles. Both daytime sizes come in either small or large. Fiber choices include either Microfiber or Hemp/Cotton and in single insert daytime, or as a nighttime doubler. The night-time inserts (pictured below) allow a daytime inserts to snap on top for maximum absorbency. These night time inserts would also accommodate a baby needing more absorbency and would be good for a heavy wetter. Inserts are sold separately or with starter packs and I find that having two to three per shell is a good number.
I hope this gives you a nearly in-person look at Buttons Diapers. I’ve found that they’re easy to use, trim and great for smaller babies. I will definitely have our Buttons Diapers ready for the arrival of our baby and can’t wait to try the natural fiber inserts and night time doubler. I found in the past that the smaller insert wasn’t quite enough absorbency for us, and I wished I had purchased the large from the start. I plan on having boosters/prefolds on hand to make sure I get the absorbency right this time! Not a fan of the Buttons Inserts? These shells could easily be used with prefolds and flats of any variety. Versatile, easy to use and attractive, Buttons Diapers make a great addition to any stash.
