Tekhni Petradi Heather Review

I have been fortunate when it comes to wraps. I have had the opportunity to try many brands, feel and wrap with different patterns, styes and I really enjoy the whole process. However, I find myself comparing all wraps to Tekhni. “This isn’t as wide as my Tekhni wraps, this one isn’t as supportive, this doesn’t have the depth of color that other wraps do.” So as it would turn out, I love Tekhni. I am really excited to share Tekhni Petradi Heather with you. It’s a 100% Mercerized cotton, Made in France beautiful lightweight (218.24 g/m2) supportive wrap. It has character and sheen that make it complex and eye catching. Here are some photos:

Amidst the bearing in my washing machine going (I do 2-3 loads a day so this is a big deal), being told my husband has lung cancer, then cancer somewhere else that has traveled places, then lymphoma…then they don’t know…maybe something else…I was staring at this beautiful wrap! Let’s just say the past few weeks have been trying. As a busy Mom to 3 boys, ages 4 and under, with 1 on the way I keep a policy to remain as un-stressed as possible…until I know exactly what to be stressed out over.
My babywearing journey started over 4.5 years ago. I purchased a Moby for my first son who just couldn’t be put down. “You’re spoiling him, let him cry” I was told, but I knew that wasn’t the solution. He was happy being held, so I was going to hold him somehow!
Our journey has come a long way and I love love love woven wraps. Did I say I love woven wraps?!! At first I was intimidated by the long fabric, but as it turns out I prefer the longest! I love a long 6 or a 7 and enjoy the distribution of weight all that wrapped fabric gives me. My 17 m/o son here is 33 lbs and wears a 3T. I’m 3+ months along with baby #4 and can comfortably wrap above my starter bump. This wrap is both lightweight and supportive. I thought Tekhni couldn’t top Tekhni’s Thalia, but wow, this is really something!
Right out of the wash it was wrinkled and felt a bit crunchy. I followed Tekhni’s instructions and did a warm water wash, low heat dry and warm steam iron. I ironed it on warm, the wrinkles didn’t disappear. I poured a bit of water in the iron and steam/cotton setting did the trick! I love ironing wraps, it’s very therapeutic. I folded it and headed to the park with my boys. I took the wrap photos, hubby took the photos of me…and I apologize but most seem to be from the rear (yes you may laugh here)!! However I did find a few side shots.
Petradi is more supportive then I imagined. At 218.24 g/m2 fresh out of the wash and an iron, I feared that it would be too lightweight to support my healthy boys. However, as you can see it’s supportive, the knot is very manageable, has nice drape, the diamonds give excellent grip but not so much it feels like velcro and it’s an ideal width at 30″. After about 45 minutes my shoulders let me know that I needed to stretch out the fabric. I have narrow shoulders and sometimes a wrap can resemble a tank top for me. A short adjustment and we went back to being very comfortable. My 17 m/o is a leaner, and he made sure to test this out. He leaned backwards, from side to side and this woven remained in place!

I am so happy to have this wrap! Every so often I encounter someone who says “I like Tekhni wraps but they’re so thick” between Thalia and Petradi I am sure that no-one can every say that again! Also, Tekhni’s thick wraps are absolutely amazing. One really interesting thing about Petradi is the diamond pattern. If you notice, in one row of diamonds it nearly looks like a spider web (or so my 4 year old insists) and the other row of diamonds appears dotted. I have no idea what sort of magic went into weaving this pattern but I would LOVE to see a video of this. Dear Petradi weaver, please break out your smartphone and send all of us Tekhni lovers a video!
Why Tekhni? I insist that you read more about the company and it’s fantastic owner Alisa Demarco and read about her company and more amazing Tekhni wraps in my Ceres with Repreve review. If you are looking for some serious support, check out Tekhni Meandros Chai with Tussah Silk.

So sorry to hear about you husband! Prayers lifted up that all goes well for you guys. Meanwhile, with so many things going wrong and the stress that has been thrown at you lately, every little thing helps, especially when it was created to make life easier. Sounds like a great carrier!

I never had one of those when my kids were little. I would have loved to have one for my youngest child who suffers greatly from anxiety – even when little. She would have loved to have been that close to me all the time.

This looks like the perfect way to carry a baby and since it is securely wrapped around both of you and your son can move relatively freely it sounds like a win win all around.

I wish your husband a smooth and fast recovery! I'm sorry to hear of his ill health. This baby wrap looks so comfy. I'm amazed you are still carrying your child at 33lbs! That is awesome. My baby is around 25lbs… I'll have to pull out my wrap and try carrying him on a cooler day to see how he likes it still. 🙂
