If you haven’t heard about the benefits of Omega 3’s, then you’ve been hiding under a rock (possibly literally). They’re in everything! I saw a carton of milk at the supermarket a few weeks ago that said “with Omega 3’s.” I turned it around and…there was added fish oil. Fish oil in milk?! It’s everywhere. So, what type of Omega-3 Oil is the best? Krill oil has emerged as the new leader in oils for many reasons. It absorbs better, has natural ingredients that helps prevent it from oxidizing and doesn’t have that fish burp people refer to from other Omega 3 Oil pills. In addition, Krill oil is believed to be free from the toxins larger fish have because it’s a small crustacean and located in a less commercially fished/less polluted area. Larger fish live longer and absorb more toxins like mercury (1).
I’m thrilled to use my husband a guinea pig to test out this Vitavana Omega-3 Ultra Purified Krill Oil. Krill oil is known in studies for demonstrating anti inflammatory properties in individuals with arthritis and decreasing overall symptoms. (1) Ideal, right? He’s taking it in combination with the Vitavana Ultra Glucosamine and Chondroitin with MSM which we also reviewed.
As you can see the pills are a very reasonable size. They are very dark, I would say a very dark purple and opaque. When I opened the bottle I noticed a fish smell right away. While they do have this odor, hubby reports that they don’t give the fish-burp that is reported with other forms of Omega-3 fish oil. The bottle came sealed on top, but without any cotton or filler inside. While he reports not noticing a difference yet, he is taking this combination of supplements as part of Dr. Oz’s 6 week arthritis cure. While I’m sure his arthritis won’t be cured so to speak, any relief would be fantastic for both short and long term function in his joints.
